Zuluchyld (Buyi Zama) was born in Kwa-mashu township (north of Durban) her biggest dream as a young girl was to see the world.
Her hopes and dreams saw her moving to JHB as part of a CCP/ EMI signed gospel group but this was after she had been on stage with the legendary Whitney Houston on her first and only south African tour and that was when the bug to perform really hit Zuluchyld.
After only a few months in Jozi Zuluchyld became an accomplished performer and sought after studio session singer, working with leading South African recording artists.
ZuluChyld has worked as a backing vocalist for artists such as Rebecca Malope, Pure magic, was featured on the Admiral’s and dj fistaaz’s debut album “Its Time” in 2002 Zuluchyld made the journey to London where she performed in the London Company of Disney’s The Lion King.
In 2003 Buyi was given the opportunity to continue her work with Disney and come to Australia to perform the role of “Rafiki” as an original cast member of the Sydney production.
Whilst in Australia, Buyi had the opportunity to be a guest host on Disney’s Channel show “Studio D” as well guest appearances on “Good Morning Australia” (Channel 10); “Mornings with Kerri Anne” (Channel 9) and “Sunrise” (Channel 7).
Back in South Africa Buyi has also been seen on Morning Live (SABC2 South Africa) and 3talk to name a few In 2004 Buyi was awarded the prestigious Australian entertainment “MO” Award for Female Musical Performer of the Year and nominated for the 2004 Helpmann Award for Best Female in a Musical.
In late 2009 Zuluchyld decided focus on a healthy lifestyle and somehow that became public interest as her weight loss and workout regime was featured on local , national and international publications.
Zuluchyld currently focusing on writing her own material and hopes to record this work in the near future.
